Few years ago I faced the similar situation, but problem was not in MSE fail to install but in paid antimalware crapware which was pre-installed on my new notebook. I don't want to disclose what was this AV (it's really famous, product of industry lead company). It was inactive already - license time is over already, and it was impossible to remove it properly, because of numerous errors during the uninstall. I did not want to reinstall the system, so I spent several hours killing is with my rku (AV deeply hooked into system, installed numerous drivers and services), and then cleaning out all remaining traces of the antivirus product.
